Hello everyone! My name is Trevor Yokoyama and I would like to welcome you to the Buddhist Discussion column of the Young Buddhist Editorial. This column will be composed of user submitted content as well as moderated opinion pieces that present differing views on selected topics. As the column editor, it is my job to work alongside our Head and Ko editors in approving the articles that are submitted to this column.
The goals of the Buddhist Discussion column are as follows:
To provide a platform for the expression of Young Buddhists
To promote a place for Buddhist oriented conservation
To provide unbiased Buddhist views on contemporary topics
Any and all topics are welcome to be submitted so long as they follow YBE’s submission Guidelines. (That can be found here: https://www.youngbuddhisteditorial.com/submissions) Nothing is “too boring” or “not important enough” for the column. YBE is a platform that is meant to give the youth a voice. So please use it to speak out because I promise that there are many eager people who are ready to listen.
Also although our site is primarily aimed at Young Buddhists, submissions from anyone, regardless of age, are accepted.
As the editor of the Buddhist Discussion column, I want to present all potentially contentious topics in the most unbiased way possible. Therefore, submissions based on these topics will be posted in combination with other submissions or articles that provide an alternate view. There may be viewpoints expressed that some readers find offensive, however it is important to understand and empathize with opposing viewpoints. Furthermore, it is meaningful to see how fellow Buddhists have come to their respective conclusions. I ask all of our readers to be mindful in their responses to these pieces because we are all, bombu (foolish beings) You can read more about bombu here.
We can never be 100% correct about an issue nor understand the full meanings of Amida’s teachings.
I look forward to the journey before us because I know that YBE can become something wonderful. With that said, there will be speed bumps along the road so I ask for your patience as I, along with the board of YBE, learn the best ways to grow our organization. I welcome any suggestions, constructive criticism or feedback about the column. If you wish to contact us, please send a message to our email at: youngbuddhisteditorial@gmail.com.
Thank you again for your support!
