“my grandmother (嫲嫲) immigrated to San Francisco when she was a child. my family was detained on Angel Island before they were allowed into the United States and subjected to racist and classist medical examinations that most European immigrants were allowed to bypass. My 嫲嫲 and her family finally settled in San Francisco’s Chinatown. It was a hard journey to America~ but my family was and continues to be resilient.”
